Beware of Using Counterfeit Motorcycle Parts

Nowadays, intellectual property (IP) infringement becomes the problem on the global stage. The counterfeit products are risk to health and safety of consumers because the counterfeit products which do not meet safety standards is low-quality, short life cycle and will not be worth for buying.    

Intellectual property (IP) infringement affects the country’s image. The country with high rates of IP infringement will cause confidential investment, especially the innovation. The investors focus on the protection of intellectual property on their researches and inventions for contributing added value to products and services. Therefore, the country which has IP problems is not attracting entrepreneurs to invest.

In Thailand, the government is continuing to increase efforts on protection and suppression of violations of intellectual property rights. Although IP infringement cases of motorcycle parts and accessories are not high as luxury products, the entrepreneurs also recognize the importance of intellectual property on motorcycle products. In addition, there are concerns not only about copyright infringement, but also about the safety of riders.                                  

The entrepreneurs of motorcycle products in Thailand, including Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki and Kawasaki have raised public awareness on non-violating intellectual property or using counterfeit products through promote the poster “Beware of Using Counterfeit Motorcycle Parts.” The poster is a guide to differentiate genuine and fake motorcycle parts with aims to educate the public to understand and use genuine motorcycle parts and accessories. Besides, the public are being able to forecast the damage if using counterfeit products. This promotion is one of the tools which will be a benefit for both consumers and entrepreneurs. Moreover, it can increase the trade and investment in Thailand in the future.
